Port wine comes from Portugal in the Douro Valey between Oporto and the Spanish border. It is located in the northern part of Portugal. Port Wine can also be called Vinho do Porto, Oporto, Porto, and often simply Port (more in the United States). You can also find different varieties of Port Wine: dry, semi-dry and white.

Port wine has a long and ancient history. It started in the 17th century following a war between the English and the French. Because of that war, the English could not drink any French wine even if they wanted to. That is why they looked for a unique location to get wine. They finally found the Duoro Valley as the right spot for a good wine.
Port wine is especially good if you try it with watermelon or different types of desserts: cakes for examples...

Port wine is unique as it can only be produced in the Douro Region in Portugal. A key component of Port Wine is a good brandy. However, like any other good wine, you need to respect some simple rules to preserve the wine. Always keep the wine in a cool and dark location (light can damage the taste of port wine).
